AI Technology for a More Sustainable Industry: Reducing the Environmental Impact of Metal Cutting Processes
The aim of this project has been to improve the sustainability of industrial machining processes and reduce their impact on the environment, through the application of Artificial Intelligence techniques based on Machine Learning.
Thanks to these techniques, the aim is to reduce the environmental impact of numerical control chip removal machines by identifying, monitoring and controlling factors that affect the environment, such as the generation of waste derived from the use of cutting fluids.
They are currently debugging the codes for reading the parameters of the sensor that is responsible for taking data on the state of the cutting fluid in the machines. Taking into account the status, the aim of the project is to define the maintenance orders for the machine coolant.
To achieve this objective, the following production equipment belonging to the two centres participating in the project will be monitored: FANUC RoboDrill D21LiB5 (5 axes) and IKASMAK 5.1 (4 axes) of the CIFP Iurreta centre and Kondia HM1060 and Kondia A10 of the CIFP IMH.
ACEITES INDUSTRIALES EIBARLAR, S.L. is the collaborating company in this project promoted by the Vice-Ministry of Education. The company supplying the coolant also manages the laboratory analysis of the coolant samples.
