BOZI METAVERSE Project: Immersive virtual space for lifelong learning.

2024/05/22 12:40:00 GMT+2
The project aims to accelerate the innovative and adaptive capacity of individuals and companies by providing better learning opportunities through the metaverse in education. This will help to address the current and future challenges of advanced and digital manufacturing, to best meet the current and future challenges of the manufacturing industry.

We share the results of our BOZI-Metaverse project in the field of education in the Advanced and Digital Manufacturing sector!

Project in which we have carried out an exhaustive worldwide analysis of educational metaverses and their application in the Advanced and Digital Manufacturing sector.

In summary, the main phases have been:

  • Identification of enabling technologies.
  • Study of the current state of the art in educational metaverses.
  • Evaluation of metaverse platforms and immersive learning offerings.
  • Analysis of new educational challenges and their impact on roles in the teaching-learning process.

To close the project and put the finishing touch to it, we have designed a training and conducted a pilot test using virtual reality. 🥽✨

What did this test consist of? The start-up and basic operations of the flexible cell in our IMH Campus Digital Workshop, including the IKASMAK 5.1 CNC and the mobile robot #Charlie. 🤖🛠️

And who did we do it with? With two experimental groups: 👩‍🏫 Faculty and 👨‍🎓 IMH Campus students.

Both groups have practiced and learned through the Virtual Reality system, evaluating its usefulness in the teaching process in Advanced and Digital Manufacturing. 🎓💡

Another big strategic step towards the future of education! 🚀🔧

Thanks to the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa for its collaboration in the development of the project, as well as to the people, agents and companies involved.

BOZI METAVERSE project development

The BOZI-Metaverse project has carried out an exhaustive worldwide analysis of educational metaverses and their possible application in the Advanced and Digital Manufacturing sector.
The enabling technologies that comprise it have been identified and a study has been drafted on its possible application in the educational environment of IMH Campus. This study analysed the current state of the art, the technologies associated with the Metaverse concept, the variety of providers of educational metaverse platforms, as well as the immersive training offer existing worldwide. On the other hand, we have analysed the new educational challenges that we face as a training centre around this new reality in Metaverse and how this reality affects the different roles in the teaching-learning process.
To close the project, a training course was designed and a pilot test was carried out applying the proposed methodology and enabling technology (virtual reality). The pilot test carried out was the start-up process and basic operations of the different elements of the flexible cell located in the IMH Campus Digital Workshop, comprising, among others, the IKASMAK 5.1 CNC machining centre and the Charlie mobile robot. The process was carried out over several days in different experimentation groups. On the one hand, with IMH Campus teachers, on the other hand with students from the centre, who have been able to practice and learn through the Virtual Reality system developed and analysing its usefulness within the teaching process of the Advanced and Digital Manufacturing sector.
The strategic objective of the project is to accelerate the innovative and adaptive capacity of individuals and companies by improving learning opportunities based on the development of the metaverse in the field of training. In this way, it aims to increase and positively influence the field of advanced and digital manufacturing in order to best meet the current and future challenges of the manufacturing industry.
In order to achieve the strategic objective, the following specific project objectives are set:
  • To find out how the technologies that make up the metaverse are currently being used in education worldwide and what the future trend is, especially in the manufacturing sector.
  • To develop methodological proposals that facilitate the implementation of the metaverse in lifelong learning processes, considering both educational and technological challenges.
  • To design a first training challenge with technologies that in the near future will form part of the technological ecosystem that will feed the different educational metaverses and that will constitute the first milestone of practical application of the metaverse in the field of lifelong learning in the advanced and digital manufacturing sector.
  • To experiment with the training challenge designed, drawing conclusions that will serve to improve the approaches made in this project and in future similar initiatives.to package all the developments made in this BOZI-Metaverse project and to propose a simple strategy for implementing the metaverse in the training processes.
